SM2ITG v2.1 IS NOW RELEASED
Download the latest version here

This version fixes the "Quality Level 6 Looping" bug people have been complaining about, and also includes a new feature:

SIMFILE ANALYZING AND REPORT GENERATION

My utility I've been using for tournaments to analyze simfiles is now bundled with the converter. You can generate PDF reports of all your simfiles showing you:

- Where the BPM changes and STOPS are
- Exactly how gimmicky the song is, and where the gimmicks are
- If music files or background files are misspelled or missing
- Exactly how fast the song is
- The ratio of note types (quarter, eighth, sixteenth, thirty-second etc.)

That PDF report is impressive! I'd love to see something like implemented on a website-side reporting system for a simfile site. Like, auto generate info when the file is uploaded so you can view that kind of info before downloading it.

Dayum that's a good idea Mazrim!

Lol if I ever actually make that simfile uploading database site thingy I was posting about in that other thread (and if Rich doesn't shoot me down too bad :P) then maybe I just might do that. The code is in VB.NET, which should be a piece of cake to port over to an ASP.NET web service or something.

Perhaps you can work with Flip on his simfile site to implement it there as a collaborative effort, since he's already got the simfile hosting part done?

Hmm just tested the link at the top of the thread and it does appear to work. Try again? Maybe my webhost went down for a day?

First of all, this is an amazing program, good job frosty, but I have a small problem, every file I convert using this becomes half a beat early, and I can't seem to fix it on stepmania :S

Thanks in advance for the response :D

i also have the same problem with files becoming early.

@fwanky: play it on sm and change the song offset using f11 and f12 (i think) and hold alt to use smaller increments until you get the sync properly. I may not have the best/easiest solution but it works for me.

hmm well Ive tried useing this program a few times, and I dont know why, but it runs ungodly slow on my computer <_<. My computer is by no means old or underpowered, so I dont understand why. Every button click, every new window takes a few seconds to register. In the task manager, my cpu usage stays at around 5%, and it doesnt look like SM2ITG uses up alot ram or cpu. Weird <_<

"Alters the offset of the song to compensate for song conversion - stops your simfiles from being offsync at the arcade!"

I've been trying out a few charts at the arcade using this converter and every time for the first try the file always ends up being super late. For this program to work well is it necessary to have the arcade machine's offset set in Stepmania, or is there just something silly that I may be overlooking?

This is a bug. Just realized it myself. If you have a floppy drive (or possibly even just a USB key plugged in), the program will try and seek it over and over. It's a broken feature which is slowing things down. Sorry 'bout that. Temporary solution is to remove usb keys and disable floppy drives in device manager (nobody uses those anyways haha). I'll get a patch out at some point :)

When converting from MP3->OGG, I found that the conversion process cut off a few hundred samples off the beginning of the song, making all the steps late. Lots of people found this problem even when converting their simfiles manually, but didn't know why. To compensate, SM2ITG modifies the offset for you. It ONLY does this when converting from MP3->OGG. When converting OGG->OGG this is not a problem, so no offset shift is applied by SM2ITG.

It is not necessary to have the arcade machine's offset set in Stepmania. Actually it doesn't matter at all. GlobalOffset is designed to compensate for lag introduced by hardware issues specific to the particular machine. So your machine and the arcade machine will have different GlobalOffset values to compensate for the differing hardware.

Your simfiles should be totally independant of that. So to correctly sync your songs you should set your GlobalOffset to 0.00000, then listen to the TICK. Don't try to play the song. The tick sound should line up perfectly with the song when globaloffset of 0.000000. Then, run the simfile through SM2ITG. Listen to the new simfile's tick. It should also line up. If it doesn't there's a problem with SM2ITG and i'd be interested to to hear about it. If it all lines up good, it should sound perfect at the arcade.

Okay, I've always been lining up files according to how they play and not due to assist tick. I'll be going out to play ITG today so I'll give this a shot before I go and see if this works for me. Thanks!
