Found and fixed a bug:

Certain simfiles that had OGG file music, when decoded, would fail when the converter tries to normalize with an error:

"96%Error in pcmwav_read(); only read 256 instead of 65536 bytes.
ERROR: When normalizing there was an error."

This was caused by the way that the ogg decoder was implemented, using piping and standard output. This is flaky in Windows and DOS. Just re-download revision 1.2 and you'll get the version where I don't use piping anymore. That should solve the problem.

Also, I find that the offset is just a liiiitle too high if you are converting OGG->OGG, as opposed to what would normally be expected (MP3->OGG). The offsetsmfile.txt file may require manual tweaking as it varies from computer to computer.

Revision 1.3 is here!!

There are MAJOR bug fixes in this revision:

- The converted stepmania file was being truncated, and so 10-100 steps were getting chopped off the last stepchart in the simfile
- Fixed the problem where some ogg files failed to normalize properly due to a pcmwav_read() error
- A couple other minor bug fixes and changes, some cosmetic fixes to the script files

You can redownload it from the link at the top of the thread.

Is there a reason that the .ogg is being decoded so many times when I run the program? In other revisions the process was much quicker, but now it takes a very long time for the folder to become "ITG READY."

Hmm, the part of the program that decides how to encode / decode the ogg file hasn't changed. It tries to make an educated guess as to how much to compress the ogg file to, then if it finishes and the ogg ended up being too big, it steps down a level in quality and tries again, it repeats this until it gets an ogg file under 5mb. Some simfiles, if made just the right size, that the program has to encode the ogg file as many as 3 times before it gets one under 5mb.

Why don't you send me your simfile, and I'll take a look. This goes for anyone too, if you run into a simfile that gives you problems, upload it here and I'll look at it:

Well it says "Finished!" and then it starts decoding again. I left my computer for like 4 hours and I got home and it was still doing it over and over. It did the same thing with another simfile I tried at the same time. I'll send one of them to you to look at though.

Edit: I think I found the problem. I think the problem is that it doesn't work when your folder is on your USB drive. I copied my ITG2 folder off my USB onto my computer just for backup purposes and I decided to run the program then, just for kicks. It seems to have worked just fine, when I did it that way, so it's not the song. I'm not sure why that would be the problem, but maybe you have an answer.

Daphat,

Well I tried everything I could think of, but I couldn't reproduce the problem. I tried putting your simfile on my own usb key and everything o.O if you have any more information let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I found another bug in the meantime. Simfiles OR SONGS IN THE SIMFILE FOLDER, e.g. the ogg file, with extremely long names cause the program to fail. The reason is because parameters in a batch file can't exceed 255 characters. So you have to keep the file names down. File names also can't have special characters, e.g. foreign languages, in them.

Still can't produce the bug with the songs getting capped at 1:45. It seems to happen irregularely.

I've used this while sitting in the arcade waiting for my turn, converting stuff to play for the next round. It definitely speeds things up! My own charts I generally cut and output to .ogg before I chart them though, so I mainly use this for other charts and my long versions. Still, it's been officially added to my "Stepmania Files and Shortcuts" folder.

I do that a lot too! Bring my laptop and swap out songs as I play :D.

Anyway, for those who recently downloaded it, you might want to again because...

SM2ITG v1.4 IS NOW RELEASED!
* THE .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 IS MANDATORY TO USE THE CONVERTER NOW. But its okay you should have installed it long long ago. Most do.

New version includes all the following new features:

- Queue system incorporated. Now only 5 simfiles translate at the same time. Others will wait patently to prevent system from grinding to a halt.
- BUG FIX: Simfiles with OGG files as the original music do not have the same offset issues as MP3s. So they all came out too early. Now, the offsetsmfileogg.txt file controls the offset for simfiles with OGG music, whereas offsetsmfile.txt controls simfiles with MP3 music. I've preset them to values that worked for me. Feel free to tweak.
- You can control the programs' ending behavior! You can optionally open or not open Windows Explorer when it finishes, and you can optionally pause or not pause for a keystroke when the program ends. All you do is change the setting in C:\SM2ITG\endprogrambehavior.txt.
- The "Long Simfiles That are Ogg-Length-Patched get cut off at 1:45" bug seems to be gone now. The decoding stage will just say it is decoding PAST 100%. I've converted all of the Customaxx simfiles fine.

So this version features some bug fixes, and a number of nice additions that will make it easier to use. Enjoy!

Hey Gordon,

I'm having a problem converting a file I made... The process completes in maybe 5 seconds and the ogg file comes out as something tiny like 13KB... and doesn't play, obviously. I'm in the process of uploading it to that link you provided.

Hey Holmes. Problem is that the MP3 in your simfile is a some kind of weird variable bitrate file. The program can handle VBR mp3 files... but yours is messing it up. Re-encode the mp3 in something a little more standard using an mp3 conversion tool and everything should work fine.

Blah... to fix the problem I ended up downloading another .mp3 (The original was from a torrented album); and it worked fine, but the filesize was too big so it had to convert it to mono </lame>
