Okay guys!

This is a beta version of the program - I have tested it as much as I can but I need your help to make sure everything actually works. I will post it quietly here for now, and then make an official announcement after I've kinked out the bugs I know we'll all find :)

--- snip ----
download the latest instead. See a few posts down.
---- /snip ------

Instructions:
1) download the file
2) run the file. it's an installer. install wherever you like
3) run the program by doubleclicking the icon on the desktop

There is no requirement to have anything in C:\SM2ITG anymore. All files are resources are included in the installation.

If you find bugs, post up the simfiles that failed onto my ftp along with a logfile.

Thanks a lot Frosty. This will help a ton.

Just a couple things that I have noticed in the first few minutes:

1.Occasionally a message will pop up after the completion of converting a simfile that says 1 file successfully converted or something to that effect. The program pauses the rest of the conversion until you click OK, so it's difficult to convert many simfiles at once without leaving the computer.

2.If I want to convert multiple group song folders at once (ex: ITG1, ITG2, and ITG3) if you change the destination folder to some random folder, the simfiles come out in one big bunch as opposed to being in their ITG1, ITG2, and ITG3 folders respectively. Is there any way that the songs can find the right folder, or is it necessary to do a one group song folder at a time?

Other than that it looks great so far.

1. That's a problem with DWITOSM.EXE that you posted. In the final release the program will wait 10 seconds, and then if it hasn't terminated yet, kill the process. So the messagebox will disappear after ten seconds.

2. No, you either pick the original folder, or one particular folder, as the destination. You'll have to do them in individual batches. You can run more than one instance of the program too and they won't interfere with each other.

One final feature I've just added for the final release - and you guys are going to LOVE this....... dynamic range compression! Or... better known as "boost the volume of the quiet parts".

Basically, it will not only amplify to 100% volume, it will also amplify the quiet parts louder so they match the loud parts. This means all those songs with quiet little parts that you can't hear at all when you bring it to the arcade.... never again.

This makes up for anything else taht might be missing, guys. :P

Alright, I guess that works then. That last feature sounds really neat too. Thanks yet again Frosty.

Alright, I've updated the download link to have those new features now. I just ran this on every ITG3 official as well as most of Mantis's simfiles from mantis-simfiles.com, and hacked it onto our ITG2 machine at aurora. 60 simfiles in all. I think that's proof enough that it's ready for full release ;)

SM2ITG v2 Complete Rewrite is Here!

Download it here

This is a complete rewrite of SM2ITG, and is a replacement for the old version. It does everything the old version could do with the addition of the following features:

- Much more granular control over the options - everything can be turned on or off
- Full batch support - convert as many simfiles as you want at once
- Drag and drop support from Explorer
- Normalize sound volume to ANY percentage - you can lower it if it's clipping
- Boost volume of quiet parts of a simfile (dynamic range compression)
- Converts and resizes graphics to PNG format
- Banner Autogenerator - reads SM file and creates a banner from it
- Copy transliterated titles into main simfile titles (ITG doesn't support japanese characters)
- Remove BGChanges from a simfile
- Add special blank cabinet lights stepchart to the simfile to blank out the cabinet lights
- Better control over the destination (save to original folder, specific folder, or directly to USB, and pick your own prefix/suffix for folder names)

This is now the ideal tool for converting simfiles both to be R21-ready for your USB stick, or to be arcade-ready for hacking!

I just recently reinstalled vista on my computer, and now I get an error while trying to convert my files. I know that everything worked fine before the reinstall, so I'm obviously missing something that I had before. Do you have any idea what would fix the problem? The error I have is:

Performing filters on the music file....
There was trouble performing the music filters!

FAILED! Failed to convert music files.

Edit: Nevermind, it was just UAC >.<

Yeah vista is annoying. I hope there aren't too many more vista related problems :P.

I think that in this version the normalization might be juuuust a titch too high, and clip things slightly. So I uploaded a new version:

SM2ITG v2.0a Uploaded
Changes
- Amplify music by +6db, not +8db. The original default might cause some songs to clip slightly.

Alternatively you can just lower the volume level to 93/94%

Okay, cool. Thanks. I ran into one problem with the hundreds of files I have converted already. I believe that it has something to do with the offset, but I'll just let you take a look at it and analyze it for yourself:

Converting stepchart file...
Change the offset by: 0.045
Altering SM file: HUNTING FOR YOU.SM
Saving as: HUNTING FOR YOU.SM.new

FAILED! StartIndex cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: startIndex

I have probably a pretty interesting request, dunno if you can implement it.

Is there a way that I can choose NOT to have the Ogg length patch applied to the song I'm converting?

Alternatively, can you implement a feature that will allow me to run songs through that already have the OGG length patch applied to the file and have it removed from the file?

If so that would be greatly appreciative.

Reason: I'm hacking a ton of songs on my machine. My machine is set to recognize songs that are 3:30-7:00min in length as long version songs and use up 2 songs for a players round, it also recognizes any song over 7:00min to be a marathon song and uses up 3 songs for a players round.

With the Ogg length patch applied my machine fails to recognize these songs that are in those respective limits, so therefore I'll have to manually revert all the OGG length patches on these songs so that my machine will recognize these song lengthes correctly.

If this feature would be easy to implement into the program I would be much appreciative as it would save me a heck of a lot of time doing this stuff manually song by song. :)

And yes I realize players can put songs on their USB's in order to get away with "murder" and play these long version songs to count as 1 song, but I'm hoping it won't get abused at the place I'm putting the machine in. I'm having the owner/employees monitor it pretty closely and if people abuse it I'll probably end up updating my machine to R23 and/or disabling custom songs if I work around for R23 is discovered, which would be a shame.

The program does let you choose whether you apply the patch or not. There is no program out there as far as I know that can unpatch your songs though.

ah well thats some good and bad news then.

Would something of that nature be tough to implement into this particular program?

Hope you can Gordon. :)

But since R23 is specifically designed to break the OGG length patch, then maybe updating my machine to R23 would allow it to see through the patch and apply the proper cirumstances to the long version songs?

I'm not well-informed when it comes to r23, but I thought that you couldn't play any song that is longer than a certain time, whether it counts as a long version song or not.

You can undo the ogg-length-patch simply by running the program without the checkbox ticked. So long as the program is processing the music, it will re-encode a brand new ogg file for you - with the correct length.

Just don't do it TOO many times over and over. It's sort-of like opening a JPEG and re-saving it. The quality will slowly degrade.

R23 will cut custom songs at 1:45 regardless. But I believe it is still vulnerable to the ogg length patch for hacked songs. R23 just has a timer that forcibly ends the song after 105 seconds. They never made the ability to get the length of an OGG file any better.
